VARGAS CASTELLANOS
GENERAL
Biography
Since 1992, she has been affiliated with the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) in the School of Medicine, where she supports undergraduate and postgraduate courses in subjects such as embryology, dysmorphology, genetics, histology, and research ethics. Additionally, she is strongly interested in paternity/maternity research, individual genetic profiling, cancer genetics, and human cytogenetics.
She has also held management roles in the public sector, including Colciencias, where she was responsible for directing the Science and Technology Program in Health Research for two years, thanks to an opportunity provided by the university and its leadership at that time. She is familiar with the university’s administrative area, having held positions such as Deputy Manager of Diagnostic Support at the Hospital Universitario de Santander, a primary training site for our Faculty of Health, served as Dean of the Faculty of Health for six years, and directed the Human Genetics Laboratory, part of the Department of Basic Sciences and the UIS School of Medicine. She continues in this role, contributing to one of the UIS’s mission objectives by offering paternity and maternity identification services.
