GENERAL
Biography
Wilson Olaya León is a tenured professor in the School of Mathematics at Universidad Industrial de Santander. He completed his undergraduate studies in Mathematics at the Universidad Industrial de Santander between 1997 and 2001. From 2002 to 2004, he received a Teaching Assistantship at the Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia) to pursue a Master’s degree in Mathematical Sciences. He worked as an Adjunct professor at the Universidad del Valle in the 2004-2005 period and as an adjunct and tenured professor at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Cali in the 2005-2006 period.

He was appointed as a tenured professor at the Universidad Industrial de Santander on August 3, 2006, and currently holds the highest rank in his teaching career as a professor. Between 2010 and 2014, he received a paid study leave from the Universidad Industrial de Santander to pursue a Master’s degree in Research in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Universidad de Valladolid (Valladolid, Spain). His doctoral thesis titled “Hamming Weights of Castillo Codes” received the distinction of “Cum Laude.” He is a founding member of the ALCOM research group at UIS since 2008, and in the 2016-2023 period, he served as the group’s director. He has participated in three research projects in the 2019-2024 period affiliated with the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research and Extension. He has published research articles in national and international journals on topics related to Algebra, Algebraic Geometry, Number Theory, and Applications. His primary area of interest is Algebraic Geometric Coding Theory.
