GENERAL

Biography

Specialist in Ophthalmology (Universidad Industrial de Santander, Bucaramanga, Col., 1998), he completed an advanced training program (fellowship) in Anterior Segment and Refractive Surgery (1998). He has been involved in undergraduate and graduate teaching for more than two decades. He is currently the Scientific Director of the Virgilio Galvis Ophthalmological Center, within the medical complex of the Santander Ophthalmological Foundation FOSCAL (Floridablanca, Colombia).

Director of the Specialization Program in Ophthalmology at the Universidad Autonoma de Bucaramanga UNAB in agreement with the Santander Ophthalmology Foundation FOSCAL (Floridablanca, Colombia). Tenured professor of the specialization program in ophthalmology at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) in agreement with the Santander Ophthalmology Foundation FOSCAL (Floridablanca, Colombia).

Director of the UNAB Clinical Research Group. Member of the GRICES-UIS Surgery and Specialties Research Group. Academic Coordinator of the Foscal International Ophthalmology Course.

He is categorized as a Senior Researcher by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Minciencias) of the Republic of Colombia. He currently has an H-index of 16 with 1,000 citations on Scopus, and an H-index of 22 on Google Scholar with 1,927 citations.

He is dedicated to Cornea, Anterior Segment and Refractive Surgery. Researcher with more than 140 indexed publications. He is an expert in myopia, keratoconus and corneal endothelial diseases, areas in which he is currently conducting research projects.
