GENERAL
Biography
Carlos Alberto Ríos Reyes has professional experience in surface geological mapping, mineralogy, metamorphic petrology, petrographic studies applied to igneous-metamorphic complexes, characterization of geological materials, genetic and process mineralogy, genesis of mineral deposits and exploration of mineral deposits. In recent years, he has focused his research interests on the remediation of environmental problems caused by mining activities (acid mine drainage) and oil activities (oil spills) that cause the deterioration of water and soil, using zeolites for this purpose, as well as on the recovery, recycling and use of industrial waste for its transformation into materials such as zeolites and geopolymers.

His research interest is related to interdisciplinary work in the development and application of new materials (zeolites and geopolymers) and environmental technologies applied in the remediation of environmental problems caused by industrial activities. Recently, he has focused his experience in mineralogy on the characterization of reservoir rocks using various basic and advanced microscopy techniques, determining the petrophysical properties of rocks through digital rock physics workflows, studying the rock-fluid interaction in alkaline and saline media, evaluating the reactivity potential of clays and their implications in enhanced oil recovery, and characterizing clays and zeolites of interest to the oil industry, including microscopy applications in the oil and gas industry.
Dr. Rios is an expert in the design of laboratory testing programs for environmental purposes, including the use of analytical techniques such as stereomicroscopy, transmitted light microscopy, electron probe microanalysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry and absorption tests for water treatment. He has published numerous research articles in national and international journals and has presented scientific papers at national and international events. In addition, he is the author of several books and book chapters, and has served as a reviewer in several national and international scientific journals.
