GENERAL

Biography

Electrical Engineer (1998) and Master in Electric Power (2004) from the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), Bucaramanga, Colombia. Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (2014) from the University of Delaware, United States. Since 2001, he has been affiliated with the School of Electrical, Electronic, and Telecommunications Engineering (E3T) at UIS, where he is currently a full-time Tenured Professor. From 2009 to 2013, he was a graduate student affiliated with the University of Delaware’s Industrial Assessment Center, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

He has over 20 years of experience in the fields of electric power quality and signal processing, with more than 50 peer-reviewed conference and journal publications, and an h-index of 14.

He also holds two invention patents. His career has been enriched by coordinating the graduate programs of the School of Electrical, Electronic, and Telecommunications Engineering (E3T) at UIS from 2014 to 2019. Since July 2024, he has served as the Director of the Research Group on Electric Power Systems (GISEL) at UIS, where he has supervised doctoral theses, master’s research projects, and undergraduate theses. He has also participated as a principal investigator and co-investigator in research projects funded both internally and externally.

His main research interests include electric power quality, signal processing, and machine learning applied to monitoring, planning, and controlling electrical systems, smart grid functions, renewable energy, non-intrusive load monitoring, demand management, modeling of nonlinear loads, fault location in distribution systems, short-term demand forecasting, and engineering education.
