GENERAL
Biography
Professor Dora Solange Roa Fuentes joined the School of Mathematics as a tenured professor and faculty member in 2010. Her work focuses on supporting the education of undergraduate students in Mathematics Education, Mathematics, and Engineering programs. Her research interests primarily revolve around the development of advanced mathematical thinking, the study of potential mathematical talent, algebraic thinking, and the didactics of linear algebra.
She has supervised more than twenty master’s theses and three doctoral theses, some of whose results have been published in internationally recognized journals. Thanks to her work with the APOE Theory (Action, Process, Object, and Schema), she collaborated with researchers like Ed Dubinsky, Asuman Oktaç, María Trigueros, and others in writing the book titled “APOS Theory: A framework for research and curriculum development in mathematics education.”
Her interest in phenomena associated with the teaching and learning of mathematics is rooted in the complexity of abstraction and generalization processes in mathematics. This aspect has guided her professional development, aided by her education in the Mathematics Education program at the Universidad Industrial de Santander.
