GENERAL

Biography

Fernando Estrada holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy of Science from Universidad del Valle, 1995, with doctoral studies at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM). He served as the director of the Center for Regional Studies (CER) and Director of the Seminar on Contemporary Colombian Issues. In 2012, he received the National Prize as a Researcher in Group A1, recognized by Colciencias – Sapiens Research. Currently, he is a Full Professor and Researcher at the Universidad del Externado of Colombia, an Associate Editor for IDEAS/RePEc Munich, and an Evaluator for Colciencias for Excellence Groups.

Fernando has taught courses in Political Economy, Epistemology of Research, Logic and Theory of Argumentation at the University del Valle (1989-1994), History of Economics and Political Philosophy at UIS (1994-2023), and Political Theory and the State at EAFIT (2004-2005). Additionally, he has taught Political Science and Civil Wars at the Universidad del Externado de Colombia (2005 – 2013).

His research interests include the dynamics of the internal Colombian conflict, political economy, and the pragmatics of information in civil wars. He has written and researched extensively on electoral processes and political parties in Colombia. His publications are found in academic journals and opinion newspapers at both the national and international levels. The book called: Las metáforas de una guerra perpetual (Metaphors of a perpetual war) reissued by the Editorial Fund of EAFIT, Medellin, Colombia, in 2004 and 2005, applies the theory of argumentation to specific cases of the Colombian conflict. He is also a co-author of the book “Terrorismo y Seguridad,” published by Planeta Editorial and Revista Semana, Bogotá, Colombia. Currently, his primary research focus examines issues related to the Economics of Inequalities, Theories of the State, and Epistemology of the Sciences.
