GENERAL
Biography
Professor Gabriel Ordóñez Plata has been affiliated with Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) since 1985 in the School of Electrical, Electronic, and Telecommunications Engineering, where he teaches various subjects related to the basic and professional training of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He has played a role in the professional development of approximately 3000 engineers.
Currently, he holds the position of Full Professor Laureate. He has served as the Director of Research for the Faculty of Physical-Mechanical Engineering, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Physical-Mechanical Engineering, Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Electrical Power at the School of Electrical, Electronic, and Telecommunications Engineering, and Director of the Research Group in Electric Power Systems (GISEL).

He has been involved in research and extension projects and is recognized as a Senior Researcher by Min-Ciencias, with participation in various research and extension projects. He has supervised or co-supervised doctoral theses, research projects for master’s degrees in Electrical Power, Electrical Engineering, and Electronic Engineering, application projects for the Master’s in Electric Power Distribution Systems, monographs for the Specialization in Electric Power Distribution Systems, and undergraduate projects in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He has also served as a speaker at various academic, professional, and community events.
His research interests include engineering professional training, quality of electrical energy, measurement of electrical systems, energy transition, and sustainable development, encompassing sustainable buildings, smart grids, and the rational and efficient use of energy.
For a year, he was a visiting professor at the Department of Electronics, Computer Science, and Automation at the University of Girona, Girona (Spain), and the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Automation Engineering at the Carlos III University of Madrid (Spain).
He has been a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) since 1996 and has been a Senior Member since 2008. Since 1997, he has been the Faculty Advisor of the IEEE Student Branch at the Industrial University of Santander. He has served as an academic peer for the NATIONAL ACCREDITATION COUNCIL – CNA and has been a member of the Colombian Association of Engineers (ACIEM) Santander Section since 1997, where he has been a member of its board of directors.
