GENERAL

Biography

Gilberto Arenas Díaz is a Professor in the School of Mathematics at the Universidad Industrial de Santander. He commenced his academic journey by earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics at the same university between 1995 and 1999, thanks to a scholarship awarded by the ICFES in recognition of his outstanding performance on the test. Subsequently, from 2001 to 2003, he successfully pursued his Master’s Degree in Mathematical Sciences at the Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia) with the assistance of a Teaching Assistantship.

On August 24, 2005, Gilberto was appointed as a Tenured Professor at the Universidad Industrial de Santander, currently holding the highest rank in the teaching hierarchy. Between 2015 and 2019, he was granted a study commission by the Universidad Industrial de Santander to complete his Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences at the Universidad del Valle (Cali, Valle, Colombia). His doctoral thesis, titled “Traveling waves for some nonlinear dispersive models,” focuses on deriving a novel physical model: a Benjamin-Ono type system characterized by greater dispersion when compared to previously known models of this nature. In his research, he employed positive operator techniques proposed by Krasnosell’skii to demonstrate the existence of solitary waves.

Gilberto actively contributes as a member of the EDAD research group at UIS and has participated in research projects associated with the Vice Rector’s Office for Research and Extension. At present, he supervises undergraduate and master’s level final projects in the field of nonlinear dispersive differential equations and is involved in research related to the applications of fuzzy mathematics.
