Jimmy Humberto Fortuna Vargas

He served as Academic and Student Life Coordinator for the English Interpreter Program at Instituto Gimnasio Superior. He worked for the U.S. newspaper La Vanguardia, a publication distributed among the Latino community in Ohio, where he worked as a journalist, translator, and copy editor. For more than ten years, he contributed to the cultural section of the newspaper Vanguardia Liberal. Some of his articles on art and culture have been published in La Opinión and El Espectador, as well as in Poeta & Escritores de Miami magazine in the United States, Cromos, and the Sunday Magazine of El Espectador. On the El Libro Total online platform, he has published nine books: Jim y las mudas (2005), Textos al vacío (2011), Inconexos (2011), En Cine (2017), Rizoma: Taller de lectura, creación literaria y artística (2019), Quiero preguntarte (2020), Luz vital (2020), Encuentros con la gran pantalla (2022), and Entre Talías y Calíopes (2023).

In 2017, he created the regional cultural outreach platform 2entesmagazin arte y cultura, a collaborative project aimed at promoting artistic and cultural initiatives in Santander. Through this project, he received a grant from Espacios Revelados, which enabled him to participate in the exhibition Memorias en Diálogo. Archivo de ciudad (2018–2019). In 2018, in collaboration with the Instituto Municipal de Cultura y Turismo de Bucaramanga, he published Obra en construcción, a book for which he served as Director of the Tuesday and Thursday Literature Workshop.

As a cultural manager, he led the Taller de lectura, creación literaria y artística Rizoma at La Casa del Libro Total in Bucaramanga. At the same institution, he curated three art exhibitions and directed the monthly publication Registros de ciudad. At Centro Colombo Americano Bucaramanga, he coordinated the project Cine2entes en el Colombo Bucaramanga. He created and directed Cine sin sala, a magazine devoted to cinema, as well as Libre de Márgenes, a publication focused on literature.

He served as Press Officer for SANFICI – Santander Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente. He has been a jury member for the second and third editions of the Jorge Valderrama Restrepo Literature Competition, organized by the Instituto Municipal de Cultura y Turismo de Bucaramanga. He was also a member of the Editorial Committee and copy editor for L magazine, a publication of the School of Languages at Universidad Industrial de Santander. He currently writes a column for El Frente and contributes to the cultural supplement of Vanguardia.
