Biography
At the UIS School of Biology, Professor José Gregorio Moreno Patiño is in charge of several subjects that cover topics of great interest in the animal world. One of them is Metazoa II, which focuses on vertebrates, such as fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. The course emphasizes comparative morphophysiology and the synopsis of the biodiversity of each group. Additionally, the professor also teaches an in-depth course in Basic Ornithology, where students explore the morphophysiological, systematic, ecological, and evolutionary aspects of birds.

Since joining UIS, Professor Moreno Patiño has focused his area of interest on birds, specifically ornithology. In addition to his dedication to teaching, he has shared his knowledge with the community through presentations at conferences and support activities, such as birdwatching.
Furthermore, Professor Moreno Patiño shows a second interest in mastozoology, with an emphasis on the chiroptera group, i.e., bats. During his master’s thesis, he focused on studying the behavior of the common vampire bat, Desmodus rotundus. His commitment to research and the dissemination of knowledge in these areas has left a significant mark on the training of several generations of students.
