GENERAL

Biography

Medical Doctor, Specialist in Ophthalmology (Universidad Industrial de Santander, Bucaramanga, Colombia, 1998). He completed an advanced training program (fellowship) in Anterior Segment and Refractive Surgery (1998). He has been engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching for more than two decades. He is currently a part-time Tenured Professor (Universidad Industrial de Santander, UIS) and the Coordinator of the Ophthalmology Specialization Program at UIS in partnership with the Fundación Oftalmológica de Santander (FOSCAL, Floridablanca, Colombia). In addition, he is the Scientific Director of the Centro Oftalmológico Virgilio Galvis, within the medical complex of FOSCAL (Floridablanca, Colombia).

He is classified as a Senior Researcher by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Minciencias) of the Republic of Colombia. Currently, he holds an H-index of 20 with 1,438 citations in Scopus, and an H-index of 26 with more than 2,500 citations in Google Scholar.

He specializes in Cornea, Anterior Segment, and Refractive Surgery. A researcher with more than 150 indexed publications, he is an expert in myopia, keratoconus, and corneal endothelium diseases, areas in which he is currently conducting research projects.
