Description
Daniel Alfonso Sierra Bueno is an Electrical and Electronic Engineer from Universidad Industrial de Santander (summa cum laude, 2001). At UIS, he completed a Specialization in University Teaching (2005) and an M.Sc. in Power Engineering (2004). He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Connecticut (USA) as part of the Fulbright-DNP-Colciencias program (2005–2010). He is a Full Professor at Universidad Industrial de Santander, affiliated since 2003 with the School of Electrical, Electronic, and Telecommunications Engineering (E3T).

He served as Director of Planning, June 2016–April 2022) and Vice President for Academic Affairs, April 2022–May 2025 at Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS). He played a key role in updating the UIS Institutional Project, 2018, formulating the Institutional Development Plan of UIS, 2019–2030, revising the Pedagogical Model of UIS, 2021, renewing UIS’s institutional accreditation at high quality (2022), and deploying the Misión Docencia UIS 2030 project (2023–2025), among other initiatives. He has served as CNA academic peer reviewer, Program Accreditation Leader at UIS, ICFES consultant for the development of the Saber Pro Engineering exam, UIS Institutional Delegate to the Consorcio Colombia (2018–2025), member of the SUE 2022–2025 Advisory Committee, and Deputy Director of Institutional Strengthening for the Colombia Científica Bio-Reto XXI program, in which UIS was the anchor institution (2018–2023).
