GENERAL
Biography
PhD in Astrophysics from Université Paris-Saclay and the Observatoire de Paris; Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, and Master’s degree in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the Observatoire de Paris and Université Paris Diderot. Electronic Engineer, with a distinction for an award-winning thesis, and tenured professor at the Universidad Industrial de Santander.
He has participated in space projects led by the French (CNES) and European (ESA) space agencies, contributing to missions such as BepiColombo to planet Mercury, the Euclid space telescope, and the SMOS climate satellite. At UIS, he leads national research initiatives in radio astronomy and satellite technology, and has led three scientific expeditions to Antarctica as part of the Colombian Antarctic Program.
He is a member of recognized international organizations in the astronomical and space sector (IAU, IAF, COSPAR, SCAR, AstroCo). He has received awards in international NASA competitions and was recognized as Latin American champion in rocketry in Brazil (LASC 2022). He is also a fellow of the Aspen Institute of global leaders (ASPEN). In 2023, he received the “Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento” Award from the Assembly of the Department of Santander for his contributions to research and science outreach.
